TU Institute of Engineering (IOE) Revises BE/B.Arch Entrance Exam Schedule for 2083/84

Why Study in India: Advantages & Disadvantages

Indo Global Foundation News Desk | July 7, 2026

The Entrance Examination Board 2083 under the Institute of Engineering (IOE),Tribhuvan University, has issued an updated schedule for this year's Bachelor-level entrance examination, affecting thousands of aspiring engineering and architecture students across Nepal.

According to the revised notice, the change follows a technical requirement to adjust the previously published timeline, and has been approved by the IOE Academic Council. Under the new schedule, the online application window opens on Ashadh 23, 2083 (July 7, 2026) and closes on Shrawan 1, 2083 (July 17, 2026). The computer-based entrance examination itself will now begin from Shrawan 11, 2083 onward, running in phases across different centres, dates, and shifts.

Where the Exam Will Be Held

Once the exam gets underway, it will be conducted at IOE's own testing centres ,the Information and Communication Technology Center in Pulchowk, Lalitpur; the Paschimanchal Campus in Pokhara; the Purbanchal Campus in Dharan; and the Thapathali Campus in Kathmandu.

Seats are up for grabs at five constituent campuses (Pulchowk, Thapathali, Purbanchal, Paschimanchal, and Chitwan Engineering Campus) as well as ten affiliated colleges, including Kantipur Engineering College, Kathmandu Engineering College, Himalaya College of Engineering, National College of Engineering, Khwopa College of Engineering, and others. Combined, these institutions offer roughly 4,300 seats a year across twelve engineering and architecture disciplines, from Civil, Computer, and Electrical Engineering to Architecture, Aerospace, and Chemical Engineering.

Applying for the Exam

Interested candidates must apply online through the official IOE entrance portal. A few essentials for applicants:

Exam fee: Rs. 2,500, payable via Connect IPS, eSewa, Khalti, IME Pay, or directly at any Siddhartha Bank branch.

Eligibility: Candidates need at least 45% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics at the +2/A-Level/Diploma level, along with a minimum C grade in each subject under the NEB grading system. Students awaiting their final Class 12 or sixth-semester diploma results can also apply.

Foreign applicants: Non-Nepali students may apply for full-fee seats, with about one-twelfth of those seats reserved specifically for them.

Documents needed: A recent 350×350 pixel photo and a scanned copy of a valid photo ID (citizenship certificate, national ID, license, or passport).

The test itself is fully computer-based, made up of 100 objective questions across English, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, to be completed in two hours. Wrong answers carry a 10% negative mark, so accuracy matters as much as speed. Once the form is submitted, applicants are advised to print their acknowledgement receipt immediately and verify their allotted date, centre, and shift. Admit cards will be released in phases starting a few days before the exam and must be printed in colour no admission to the test hall is possible without one, alongside a valid photo ID.

Why It Matters

For the roughly tens of thousands of Nepali students who sit this exam each year, the revised timeline effectively narrows an already tight preparation window, making early form submission and last-mile revision even more important this cycle. At Indo Global Foundation, we work with students who are weighing this path against options abroad, particularly in India, where engineering, technology, and allied programmes remain popular among Nepali applicants. Whether a student is preparing for the IOE entrance exam or exploring alternatives across the border, our counsellors are available to help map out the best-fit route based on scores, budget, and career goals.
